KOlter HOmes Donates to Habitat for Humanity Sarasota

SARASOTA, FL / ACCESSWIRE / September 4, 2024 / Kolter Homes Southwest Florida has demonstrated its commitment to community support by donating 30+ new natural gas cooktops to Habitat for Humanity Sarasota. This donation, made in collaboration with Habitat ReStore, is part of an ongoing partnership aimed at enriching the lives of local families.

These cooktops were originally acquired as a backup supply during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure homes under construction at Cresswind Lakewood Ranch and Artistry Sarasota could be completed on schedule despite supply chain disruptions. Now, they will find new homes through Habitat for Humanity Sarasota.

“Kolter Homes Southwest FL was thrilled to be able to provide these appliances to Habitat for Humanity Sarasota and see them go to good use for a great cause,” said Fred Pfister of Kolter Homes. He went on to say, “We love working with Habitat for Humanity Sarasota in many ways, including our team members working on Habitat Sarasota homes during Team builds. This is just another way we can say thank you to the community we love.”

The gas cooktops will be made available for sale at Habitat Sarasota ReStore, located at 2095 17th Street, Sarasota, FL 34234, and are expected to sell quickly. The Sarasota Restore raises valuable funds to support their valuable mission of making dreams come true for income-eligible families in Sarasota.

Tonja Rankins, Manager of Habitat Sarasota ReStore, shared, “We appreciate the generous donation from Kolter Homes Southwest Florida. Donations such as this help fuel our mission and our goal by emphasizing … TOGETHER we build! Thank you for choosing us as a charity of choice.”

When it comes to supporting the needs of South Florida charities, Bobby Julien CEO of the Kolter Group and Michael Neal President of Kast Construction led by example and set the bar high for the development industry. Once again, the pair combined their efforts to extend invitations to high-net-worth colleagues for their 11th Havana Nights annual charity poker tournament held last November.

This distinguished event offered the firm’s vast network of top-level business professionals in South Florida a unique opportunity to enjoy a tropical evening of fun while participating in an unforgettable night of poker. Held at the Hyatt Centric Fort Lauderdale, guests were greeted with cocktails, live entertainment, and a dinner reception featuring Cuban-inspired food stations, culminating in a fun-filled, high-stakes poker tournament. This year’s Havana Nights event raised over $2 million for deserving nonprofit charities throughout the region.

Embracing the theme of ‘chic Havana evening attire’ with a focus on all things Cuban, the atmosphere was further heightened by the addition of casino gambling tables from Casino Party Nights Florida Inc. Kolter Group and Kast Construction donated all of the event expenses, ensuring that every dollar raised through sponsorships and donations directly benefited the 22 nonprofit partners. Additional support came from Wild Card Sponsors Coastal Construction Group and Construction Trade Partners.

“This is incredible,” said Stephanie Seibel, chief executive officer at Achievement Centers. “The people on our boards are so willing to jump in and help. People are there for the right reasons.” Seibel highlighted the event as their single largest source of private-sector donations.

However, Seibel wasn’t the only one thrilled about Havana Nights’ success—Bobby Julien, CEO of Kolter Group and a longtime supporter of Achievement Center for Children and Families, was equally excited.

“We came up with the concept in 2012 because we sensed that people were getting tired of all the black-tie galas, and we wanted to do something memorable. We created a charity poker tournament, and the team has made it spectacular,” Julien said. “The real pay-off comes when we get to see the good works that result from what we raised. A lot of people need help. We love giving back.”

Walking to the podium with unquestioning confidence in his stride, Kyle MacDonnell, accompanied by his mother Mary Sue MacDonnell and surrounded by hundreds of people, had a lot to say to the audience of students, teachers, administrators, elected officials, news media and others, considering he was almost completely nonverbal growing up. Among the numerous points of pride he discussed, he beamed when he said, “Last week, I even got my first paycheck.”

On April 26, Habitat Sarasota announced the kickoff of our capital campaign: Lives Transformed. The Campaign for Hammock Place.

The kickoff for The Campaign for Hammock Place took place at the Northern Trust, who sponsored and hosted the event. The room was at capacity with more than 60 of Habitat Sarasota’s top supporters and board members. Habitat Sarasota detailed plans for the three-year initiative to build 40 homes with a $7 million goal. The breakfast celebrated the $3 million already committed through a partnership with the Kolter Group and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.

The program included several noted leaders within the community including Roxie Jerde, President and CEO, Community Foundation of Sarasota County; Phil Delaney, President, Northern Trust; John Peshkin, Principal, Vanguard Land; Jim Harvey, President, Kolter Land Partners; Dave Langhout, Vice President, Kolter Homes and Bonnie Dezii, Vice President of Claims, FCCI Insurance Group.

“Three years ago, Habitat started a plan to increase the impact of the organization in the community,” said Renee Snyder, President and CEO, Habitat Sarasota. “I am proud to announce we are building a neighborhood. A neighborhood that will transform the lives of 40 families and more than 100 children right here in Sarasota.”

Located in Sarasota County on the north side of 17th Street, just east of Beneva, Hammock Place is designed to look like a market rate community. The neighborhood features 3- and 4-bedroom homes that include a 2-car garage. It will be deed restricted, include lawn maintenance and have a gated entry. Habitat Sarasota is using cutting-edge construction methods that exceed green building standards. Through the support of volunteers and community partners, the homes will be sold with a zero percent interest mortgage to qualified candidates.

The impact to Sarasota will be profound.

  • 40 homes.
  • 40 families with less stress now able to plan for their future.
  • 100+ children proud of their home.
  • One neighborhood.

Site development has begun and the infrastructure of the roads will begin Summer 2018. New home construction will start Fall 2018.

“It takes community and corporate partnerships paired with individual giving to make The Campaign for Hammock Place a success,” says Snyder. “You have the opportunity to transform the lives of 1 child, 1 mother, or 1 father who will live in Hammock Place. It starts with you.”
