In the spring of 1997, Bobby Julien partnered with an investor to form Kolter Property Company with the goal of developing residential and commercial properties in North America. Within a year, Kolter Homes was formed and began construction of its first single family home at PGA Village on Florida’s Treasure Coast as well as its first condominium project, The Water Club, on Longboat Key. During the same period, Kolter purchased land to develop South Creek, a one million square foot six building commercial office park in Markham Ontario.

In 2007, Kolter formed a land development division, Kolter Land, which develops finished lots for national and large regional home builders.

In 2008, Kolter expanded into the hospitality space and established Kolter Hospitality which focuses on developing and managing hotels.

In 2021, Kolter formalized its commitment to the multifamily business with the formation of a new Kolter Multifamily division.
